Classroom News: Fossils, Winter Wellness, and Animal Research

I hope that everyone enjoyed the school vacation!  I am looking forward to jumping back into our learning this week!

The month of February was such a busy time in our school!  Here are a few highlights:

We had a wonderful visit from Jack (Elliot's dad), who shared his fossil collection.  It was exciting to take a close look at fossils, such as dinosaur teeth and prehistoric plants.  A big thank you to Jack for sharing his time and interesting information with us!  This learning connected well with our current animal unit, especially learning about special features and adaptations that help animals survive.

Everyone seemed to greatly enjoy sledding, skating, and skiing during our Winter Wellness days!  I was so impressed with the ways that students challenged themselves to learn or become stronger with a new winter activity/sport.  Thanks to all of the parent volunteers who helped to make these days possible!

We also enjoyed our second visit from Carolyn and Cuddles, her reading dog.  They joined us while we were working on our animal group projects and had the opportunity to listen to students reading from their animal books and sharing exciting facts that they had learned.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Celebration of Learning!  Students collaborated well with their groups to research the special features, adaptations, life cycle, food chains/webs, and other important information about their animal group.  Then, each group worked to design their presentation board.  It was fun to see the different ways that students chose to share their ideas.  We also had fun and a few surprises when we were measuring out some of the larger animals in each group!
